The Vande Bharat Express is a premium train of Indian Railways, which runs between New Delhi and Varanasi in India. The train was flagged off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 15 February 2019. It has been named after the ancient Sanskrit epic poem called Vāmana Bhāratīya (“the victory of the land of Bharata”) written by sage Valmiki.

The Vande Bhart Express has been provided with Air Purification with Antibiotic System (APAS) for disinfecting the air inside the train. APAS uses ozone generators to purify the air inside the train and thus helps in maintaining healthy environment inside the train. Trail Runs of Vande Bharat Express (Train 18)

The Indian Railways’ first semi high-speed train, Vande Bharat Express (previously known as Train 18), began its first trial run on 29 October 2018 in Tamil Nadu. The train ran along the Chennai Central–Arakkonam section of the Chennai Suburban Railway network, reaching a maximum speed of. The train travelled at a speed of for about 15 minutes. This was followed by a second trial run on 30 November 2018, where it covered the same route, but at a slower speed of, and lasted for around 40 minutes. Both trials were conducted under the supervision of the Ministry of Railways. During its trials, Train 18 achieved a top speed of and has a range of. The train is capable of reaching a top speed of but because of speed restrictions imposed by the Indian government, the actual top operating speeds are limited to on most routes.

Train 18 is designed to replace older trains such as the Shatabdi Express, Rajdhani Express, Duronto Express and Gatimaan Express. The train features a design similar to that of Japan’s bullet train technology, featuring a single white body with blue stripes. 

On 20 December 2018, one window of the train was damaged by a stone thrown by a passenger while the train was running between New Delhi and Agra. The incident took place near Gwalior station, and the person responsible was arrested within hours of the attack.
