Booking figures released by the South Western Railway Zone from November 12 to November 22 have revealed an unprecedented demand for the train which takes 390 minutes from Chennai to Mysuru and 385 minutes in the opposite direction. The Shatabdi Express takes an additional 30 minutes in each direction, making the South Western Railway Zone the popular choice for travelers.

The South Western Railway Zone has been a popular choice for travelers due to its efficiency and convenience. The Shatabdi Express, which takes 390 minutes from Chennai to Mysuru and 385 minutes in the opposite direction, is one of the most sought-after trains in the zone. The train has 14 AC Chair Cars (CC) plus two Executive AC Chair Cars (EC), totalling 112 revolving seats. There are 1,092 CC seats, each with a ticket priced at Rs 780, while an EC ticket costs Rs 1,660. The demand for the Shatabdi Express has been unprecedented since its launch on November 22. The train has been running at full capacity and has been booked out days in advance. This is due to its convenience and efficiency, as well as the fact that it is the fastest way to travel between Chennai and Mysuru. The Chief Public Relations Officer (SWR) Aneesh Hegde said that the EC category of the VB train from Chennai to Mysuru (Train No. 20607) had an average booking of 147%, whereas the CC category had 115%. In the Mysuru to Chennai (Train no. 20608) direction, the EC category had 125% booking and the CC category had 97%. He also stated that the waiting list to travel on the train was significant. The stats also showed that the Shatabdi’s EC and CC categories had 64% and 85% booking from Chennai to Mysuru (Train No. 12007) and 75% and 98% in the reverse direction (Train no. 12008).Explaining the huge demand, Hegde said, “VB, which offers the comfort of an airline on rails, is faster than Shatabdi and is increasingly preferred by business people, students and tourists to travel between Mysuru, Bengaluru and Chennai. It is in sync with the next generation’s aspiration – they don’t want to just travel, but have an experience which is memorable, comfortable and enjoyable.”
Except for Wednesdays, the VB leaves Chennai daily at 5.50am and arrives at KSR Bengaluru at 10.25am and Mysuru at 12.30pm. On its way back, it departs Mysuru at 1.05pm, gets to KSR at 2.55pm, and Chennai at 7.35pm.
